UK rockers Sundara Karma releasing a new EP, then debut LP (stream "Olympia")

What other bands inspire you? Maybe bands you grew up going to see play live?

Oscar: “Arcade Fire’s a huge one. The Killers, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys (you can’t not like them, unless you’re bitter about them). The Maccabees; they’re one of my favourite bands of all time maybe. [WOW 24/7]

British rockers Sundara Karma have picked up some buzz in their home country over the past two years, and they’re now set to release their debut album, Youth is Only Ever Fun in Retrospect, on January 6 via RCA / Chess Club Records in the UK. Ahead of that album comes a new EP, Loveblood, which gets released in the US on November 4 via Bee & El/Sony RAL (pre-order), and includes the brand-new single “Olympia.” It’s anthemic in an Arcade Fire kind of way, and singer Oscar LuLu’s voice sounds more than a little like Orlando from The Maccabees. (So even more specifically, Sundara Karma sound kinda like that one Maccabees album produced by the guy who does most Arcade Fire albums.) As Oscar pointed out in the WOW 24/7 interview quoted above, those bands do happen to be two of his biggest influences. So Sundara Karma may sound pretty familiar, and their influences may all be pretty recent, but they also seem like a fun band. “Olympia” is a pretty damn catchy song, and you can hear it right here:

In addition to “Olympia,” the new EP will include “Loveblood,” “She Said,” “A Young Understanding,” and “The Night,” all of which will also be on the debut album. Besides “The Night,” those songs are all out now and can be heard below. Earlier singles “Vivienne” and “Flame” will also be on the album, and you can hear those below as well.

Sundara Karma will be in the US this November on the ‘BBC Introducing Tour’ with Spring King and Izzy Bizu. That tour begins in NYC on November 14 at Gramercy Theatre. Tickets for that show are on sale now. All dates are listed below.
