UK trio GoGo Penguin releasing 'Man Made Object' on Blue Note, making NYC debut at Winter Jazzfest (dates, video)

It’s probably not a coincidence that UK jazz trio GoGo Penguin‘s promo photo (above) looks an awful lot like the cover of James Blake’s first album. They have an all-acoustic jazz set up (piano, double bass, and drums) but pianist Chris Illingworth says, “We’re recreating electronic music on acoustic instruments.” Drummer Rob Tuner adds, “Many of the songs on this album started out as electronic compositions that I made on sequencing software like Logic or Ableton. I’ll then play it to the band and we’ll find ways of replicating it acoustically.”
They recently signed to Blue Note Records and will release their first album for the label, Man Made Object, on February 5. They just put out the video for the single “All Res,” which you can watch below.
They’ll make their NYC debut on January 16 for a Winter Jazzfest show. It’s their only US date at the moment, but they have plenty of European shows coming up too. All dates are listed below.
