Union Pool announces 2018 "Summer Thunder" lineup: Wand, Sun Ra Arkestra, Deradoorian, Songhoy Blues, more

One of the welcome warm weather constants in this ever-changing world in which we live in (here in NYC) is Union Pool’s Summer Thunder series, which offers free shows and good vibes every Saturday from June – August. They’ve just announced the 2018 lineup which is pretty great this year.

Things kick off June 2 with Deradoorian and L’Rain, and also includes Wand and Spirit of the Beehive on 6/16 (one day after they play Elsewhere), The Sadies and Ryan Sawyer on 6/30; Songhoy Blues and Braineaters on July 7; Jemeel Moondoc with the Super Blue Trio and Bridget St John on 7/21; Mamadou Kelly on 7/28; and The Jay Vons and Miriam & Nobody’s Babies on August 4.

UPDATE: Due to the 6/23 weather forecast, the Sun Ra Arkestra show has been moved to September 1.

The Sun Ra Arkestra, who are Summmer Thunder mainstays, play June 23, and latin soul king Joe Bataan (who has played nearly every year, if not actually every year) closes out the season on August 25.  There are still a few TBA Saturdays as well, so stay tuned. Summer Thunder goes from 2-6 PM every Saturday and is totally free to all 21 and up. The 2018 lineup is listed below.
