Unsound New York 2019 lineup (Tim Hecker, Liz Harris’ Nivhek, The Bug, more)

Unsound NYC 2019

Poland-based experimental/electronic music festival Unsound is returning for its sixth NYC edition, and first in the city since 2016, in November. Unsound New York 2019 happens at Knockdown Center on November 23, and there’s also a free opening concert on November 22 at St. Peter’s Church in Chelsea. The main, Knockdown Center night includes performances from Tim Hecker with The Konoyo Ensemble; Grouper’s Liz Harris, with the US premiere of her project Nivhek; the first NYC show from Berlin-based artist Caterina Barbieri; Kevin Martin’s project The Bug, joined by Miss Red; Berlin-based electronic duo Amnesia Scanner; and Soft Power, which pairs London producer and DJ Felicita with Polish folk ensemble Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble.

Knockdown Center’s second room hosts a lineup co-presented by The Bunker and Quo Vadis, with sets from Further Reductions (Rose E. Kross and Shawn O’Sullivan), Abby Echiverri and Leisure Muffin, rrao and Clay Wilson, January Hunt and Octonomy, Asthyna with Shredded Nerve and Jackson-Pratt, and Pedestrian Deposit.

The St. Peter’s Church show features the US premiere of Poland’s Księżyc, and is free. Tickets to Unsound at Knockdown are on sale now.

For Amnesia Scanner, this appears to be their first NYC show in a while, and it’ll be their first since releasing this year’s Lexachast, a collaborative album with Bill Kouligas. Stream it below.

It’ll be The Bug’s first US show in four years, and he releases his collaborative album with Justin Broadrick as Zonal on Friday.

Meanwhile, Tim Hecker has had a busy year, including the release of Anoyo, the companion album to 2018’s Konoyo.
