'Until The Light Takes Us' filmmaker Aaron Aites battling cancer; Brooklyn benefit w/ Kyp Malone & more tonight

New York filmmaker Aaron Aites, best known for directing the 2009 documentary Until the Light Takes Us, which chronicles the Norwegian black metal scene, has sadly been diagnosed with agressive kidney cancer. There’s a gofundme to help with his medical costs, and some people are getting together in Brooklyn to throw a benefit for him.

That benefit for Aaron, who’s also a member of the band Iran, goes down at Union Pool tonight (April 27). It features TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone twice: solo and with his Ice Balloons project, plus Robert Aiki & Aubry Lowe. and Ryan Sawyer on DJ duty. The suggested donation is $20.

In addition to the benefit show tonight, TV on the Radio and Thee Oh Sees are auctioning cool rare memorabilia to help cover costs for Aaron, and the nationwide touring metal festival Grimposium, which is behind Choosing Death Fest, among other things, is donating all of their proceeds to help Aaron.

Nice to see communities rallying together like this. Get better Aaron! Flyer for tonight’s benefit and the trailer for Until the Light Takes Us are below.
