upcoming Tom Petty tributes in NYC (one with Walter Schreifels)

In the wake of Tom Petty‘s untimely death, there have been multiple tributes to the rock legend, and there’s a few more coming up in NYC.

One particularly cool one is the Rocks Off-presented tribute on November 6 at Brooklyn Bowl with a lineup led by Walter Schreifels (of Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, Rival Schools etc). It also includes Walter’s Rival Schools bandmate Ian Love, The Mooney Suzuki’s Sammy James Jr, who used to always play the Petty Fest shows, four members of 2 Skinnee J’s, The Bogmen’s Billy Champion, in-demand drummer Parker Kindred, and several others. Full lineup below. Tickets are on sale.

There’s a Petty tribute at Bowery Electric tonight (10/19) with London Plane, Rvby My Dear, and Hunter & Wolfe (tickets).

And there’s also a free, afternoon tribute to Petty at Alphaville on Sunday (10/22), organized by Cake Shop’s Andy Bodor, which features Sam Kogon, members of My Teenage Stride, and more. More info here.

Speaking of Walter Schreifels, he recently performed at the Raybeez tribute in Tompkins Square Park, the same weekend that Quicksand wrapped up their tour with two NYC shows. Their first album in 22 years, Interiors, comes out November 10 via Epitaph.
