The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre which has called W. 26th St home since 2003, is moving to Hell’s Kitchen, taking over the Pearl Theatre Co space at 555 W. 42nd St (at 11th Ave). The Wall Street Journal reports the move will take place by the end of November:

The former Pearl Theatre location is a 160-seat theater with more room backstage for performers, a higher ceiling and no obstructions blocking audience members’ lines of sight to the stage, Ms. O’Neill said. There are pillars in the Chelsea theater that can obstruct views of the stage depending on where members of the audience are seated.

Upright Citizens Brigade is still determining how to best use the new space. A goal is to replicate the intimacy of the Chelsea theater, Ms. O’Neill said, the solution to which may include bringing chairs onto the stage.

“The Chelsea theater has served us very well, but I’m very excited about what we’re going to be able to do in this new space,” Ms. O’Neill said.

Founded by Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, Amy Poehler and Matt Walsh, the original UCB Theatre was at 161 W. 22nd before moving to W. 26th below a Gristedes four years later. The UCB Theater will host “special performances to celebrate the change and bid farewell to the Chelsea venue” before the move. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, UCB is selling off some of its fabrics, accessories, props, stagecraft, tools, glassware and other stuff this weekend (10/27 – 10/29) at the new 42nd St location. Hours are 10 AM – 8 PM. Cash only and more details are in the flyer below:
