Vampire Weekend & Bon Iver playing Bernie Sanders rallies; Justin Vernon on new Bonny Light Horseman song

Vampire Weekend, who played a Bernie Sanders rally in Washington Square Park (and other places) in 2016, will now show their support for Bernie’s 2020 campaign with an acoustic set at one of his rallies in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on February 1.

Bon Iver are also performing at a Bernie Sanders rally at the Horizon Events Center in Clive, Iowa one day earlier (1/31), and regarding that, Justin Vernon said:

I believe, unequivocally, that all people deserve support, love, and the freedom to choose how to live their own lives. There are promises in our constitutional language that are being superseded by money and greed in this country; I believe that Senator Sanders is the only one that has the pedigree, the experience, the courage, and the undying spirit to begin to put these obstacles of freedom to rest.

In related news, Justin Vernon sings on the new Bonny Light Horseman (Anaïs Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson of Fruit Bats, and Josh Kaufman) single “Bright Morning Stars,” which is from the trio’s self-titled debut album that comes out this Friday (1/24) via Vernon and Aaron Dessner’s 37d03d Records. (So yes, that’s Bonny Light Horseman and Bonny Bear on the same song.) Listen below.
