vigil for Orlando victims drew thousands outside The Stonewall Inn; more vigils happening this week

We’re all still reeling from Sunday’s horrific tragedy at Pulse club in Orlando. In NYC, vigils were held Sunday and Monday night for the victims outside The Stonewall Inn in the West Village. Monday’s drew thousands and was also attended by Mayor Bill de Blasio, Governor Andrew Cuomo, and more. There were speeches, Titus Burgess sang, and the names of the victims (including two NYC residents) were read. Monday night the Empire State Building was the colors of the Pride Flag, as were the lights at City Hall and the spire of One World Trade Center.

There are more NYC vigils for the Orlando victims planned. Tonight (6/14) there is a Brooklyn vigil at Grand Army Plaza at the north end of Prospect Park which starts at 7:30 PM. Also tonight, a peace vigil and march in Jackson Heights, Queens that begins at 8 PM at Manhattan Cocktail Lounge (Tempo Libero Bar, 88-09 Roosevelt Ave) and will march down Roosevelt Avenue to Club Evolution (79-19 Roosevelt Avenue.).

NYC Pride Week begins June 19 and all events are still on. A few Instagram pictures and videos from Monday night’s Stonewall Inn vigil are below.
