Virgin Mobile FreeFest not returning in 2014

Virgin Mobile FreeFest, which has happened in one form or another for the last five years at Baltimore/DC-area Merriweather Post Pavilion, will not return for a sixth:

Virgin Mobile FreeFest, the one day music festival produced by Seth Hurwitz IMP Productions, has ended its run.

The festival, originally held at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore in 2006, moved to the Merriweather Post Pavilion five years ago and in the wake of the financial crisis went ‘free’, offering tickets in exchange for donations to festival sponsor Virgin Mobile’s RE*Generation initiative to help homeless youth, or for volunteer work.

“We’ll be making a difference, in a different way,” Virgin Mobile spokeswoman Jayne Wallace wrote in a statement. “Instead, Virgin Mobile will continue its tradition of helping make a difference and support the youth homelessness cause by making a significant donation directly to the Sasha Bruce RE*Generation House.” – [Encore]

The 2013 edition featured MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Washed Out, Icona Pop, CHVRCHES and others.
