Reunited and living in L.A., Vivian Girls recently released their first album in eight years and it’s arguably their best, too. It’s been almost as long since they’ve played their former hometown but Cassie, Katy and Ali made their return Thursday night, as their tour hit Greenpoint club Warsaw (which is not too far from Baby’s All Right, the site of their 2014 farewell shows). It was a bit like travelling back in time — lots of folks you’d regularly see at Death by Audio were there — but Vivian Girls sounded better than ever. “Glad to be back,” Katy said at one point. The feeling is mutual.

It was a good, diverse lineup of openers too, including Young Guv (aka Fucked Up’s Ben Cook in power-pop mode), noise rockers Empath (who play Octfest on Saturday), and garage combo Honduras. Pictures from the night are in the gallery above.
