War On Women released their excellent new album Capture The Flag earlier this year on Bridge 9, and they just put out a video for one of its very best songs, “Anarcha.” It’s one of the catchiest songs on the album, and it’s also about one of the album’s darkest topics. It honors Lucy, Anarcha, and Betsey, three of the enslaved women who were experimented on in the 19th century by controversial physician J. Marion Sims, whose statue in Central Park was removed earlier this year. “This song is about all the stories our country has buried or ignored,” said War on Women Shawna Potter. The video pairs ominous performance footage with flashes of images related to J. Marion Sims and the enslaved women he experimented on. Watch below.

War on Women’s tour also picks back up this week, including a Long Island matinee at Amityville Music Hall on Saturday (6/30) with All Torn Up!, Sister Munch and Out Live Death (tickets); and New Haven’s Cafe Nine on Monday (7/2) with Space Camp and Videodome (tickets).

They also play DC with HIRS on Friday (6/29), Boston with Frank Turner on Tuesday (7/2), Florida with Propagandhi in September, and Florida again in October for The Fest (and Pre-Fest). All dates are listed below.
