Warpaint opening for My Morning Jacket (win NYC tix); Jennylee on new JR Slayer song

My Morning Jacket have announced openers for the three 2019 shows they’re playing this year. Their first of two Red Rocks (8/2) shows and their NYC show at Forest Hills Stadium (8/10) will both be with modern psych-pop greats Warpaint, and their second Red Rocks (8/3) show will be with new band Amo Amo (aka Lovelle Femme, Justin Flint, Shane McKillop of Gardens & Villa, Alex Siegel, and Omar Velasco), whose two singles were both produced by MMJ’s Jim James. Tickets for all three shows are still available, and you can enter to win a pair of tickets to the Forest Hills show by filling out the form below.

Warpaint also have two big shows coming up in their hometown of LA, which celebrate their 15th anniversary as a band (though their debut album didn’t come out until 2010, they did in fact form in 2004). The shows double as the third annual, two-day “Love You Down” mini-fest, which is put on by LA band SWIMM (Warpaint’s Jennylee is presenting it with SWIMM this year), Warpaint, SWIMM, and Jennylee are all playing, as are Beef (Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa + Boomp Bip), Gardens & Villa, Devendra Banhart (DJ set), and more. Love You Down III goes down February 7 and 8 at Echo/Echoplex. Tickets (single-day passes and two-day passes) are on sale now.

Warpaint’s latest album is 2016’s Heads Up; no word yet on a followup. Stella Mozgawa has been insanely busy playing on other people’s records since then.

Meanwhile, Jennylee appears on the just-released single by JR Slayer (aka Cody Votolato of The Blood Brothers, Head Wound City, etc), which will appear on his upcoming album You Found Me (due 2/1). It’s called “I’ll Never Leave U,” and it sees Jenny and Cody harmonizing together to great effect. Check it out below.

While MMJ are only playing those three dates this year, Jim James has other shows coming up including Bonnaroo. The other 4/5 of MMJ backed Strand of Oaks on his new album Eraserland, which was just announced yesterday.
