Warped Tour 2017 pics (GWAR, SOIA, Municipal Waste, War on Women, more)

Warped Tour 2017 is underway and just swung through NY/NJ over the weekend for stops at Camden’s BB&T Pavilion on Friday and Jones Beach on Saturday (7/8). The lineup has a lot more cool bands this year than the past few years, including GWAR, Sick Of It All, Municipal Waste, Adolescents, The Alarm, War On Women, Anti-Flag, Hatebreed, Valient Thorr, and Bad Cop/Bad Cop, who all played the Jones Beach stop. Pictures of that stop are in the gallery above.

At the BB&T Pavilion stop, GWAR’s Beefcake the Mighty made a surprise appearance during Silverstein’s set, “killed” their bassist Bill Hamilton on stage, and took over to play a song with the band. You can watch a video of that below.

Artists playing this year’s Warped Tour have been making some political statements, including War On Women, who issued a statement the day the lineup was announced, saying they decided to play the tour to “infiltrate what could be a hostile environment” from within. They brought along their friends in the organization they co-created, Safer Scenes, to help spread their positive message at Warped Tour. As you may have heard, a rather vulgar incident went down between The Dickies and a Safer Scenes representative earlier in the tour. War On Women’s Shawna Potter penned an article on the incident titled “Let’s Not Mistake The Dickies’ Onstage Warped Tour Rant for Anything but Misogyny.”

Anti-Flag discussed police brutality on stage at the Jones Beach stop, and shouted out some of the many victims from the past before playing. A lot of bands throughout the day made statements on stage about combating sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia, racism, etc, and there was also an anti-Trump tent set up at the festival.

The tour hits NJ again this Saturday (7/15) at PNC Bank Arts Center (tickets). Lineups and remaining tour dates here.
