Washington Post cited a Green Day ClickHole article as real news (oops!)

As you may have heard, Green Day‘s “American Idiot” actually did top the UK charts after protesters in the UK launched a campaign to play the song so many times that it would hit No. 1 before Trump’s visit to the UK. The Washington Post ran a story on this, and, amazingly, they cited The Onion’s sister site, ClickHole’s 2017 article “Enough Time Has Passed To Reveal George W. Bush Was The ‘American Idiot’ (By Billie Joe Armstrong)” as real news. They since corrected it, but Vulture points to a tweet that captured a screenshot:

WaPo since updated the article to say: “A previous version of this report included information about the meaning of “American Idiot” that was attributed to a Clickhole.com article. Clickhole.com is a satire site.” Oops!
