Bobby Oroza This Love

Finnish singer Bobby Oroza is releasing his debut album This Love on May 3 via Big Crown (pre-order), and we’re premiering the video for one of its singles, “Your Love Is Too Cold.” That’s one of four singles currently released from the album, including the title track (which was sampled by Earl Sweatshirt), “Deja Vu,” and “Should I Take You Home.” We described “Deja Vu” as mixing classic soul with the kind of lo-fi psychedelia that fans of UMO or Tame Impala might like, but “Your Love Is Too Cold” is more swaggering and more vintage. The video follows suit, and here’s what Bobby (who wrote, directed, produced, and edited it himself) says about it:

It’s shot in the legendary Moscow Bar owned by the famed Finnish film director brothers Aki and Mika Kaurismäki. After two decades of legends and culture, it’s gonna close it’s doors in a couple of months. I was fortunate to get a permission to film there.

“Too Cold” video is about the inner flame we all have inside. No matter how much in control we are or how much we thought it’s all gone for us, there comes a point when the spark will re-ignite and the fire takes hold of us once more and we must follow it’s lead to what we really need and want in life and love.

I guess I’m playing around with my own cultural background here. I’m part latin and part scandinavian. I’m familiar with the open explosiveness in communication and self expression but also grew up in socially more restrained surroundings. I remember being baffled by this contrast already as a kid and sometimes had a hard time fitting in anywhere. Now a days I still always find myself somewhere in between the poles.

I very much enjoy the comic side of these two behaviours , the timid and frozen muteness and the overly dramatic jabber.
Well, in the end these are symbolic definitions, stereotypes that people easily cling to. Inside we are all the same. When the beat is right and someones eyes won’t let you go, you will follow the flame.

Bobby is also touring Europe and the UK with his labelmates Lee Fields & the Expressions, and dates for that tour are listed below.
