It’s been nearly three years since we’ve had new episodes of FX’s Fargo but it’s finally returning for Season 4 on April 19. The series, created by Noah Hawley, has always been more “inspired” by the 1996 Coen Brothers classic (and other Coen Brothers films) than any kind of direct adaptation, but Season 4 travels the furthest from the original. It’s set in 1950 Kansas City, “where two criminal syndicates fighting for a piece of the American dream have struck an uneasy peace. Chris Rock stars as Loy Cannon, the head of the African American crime family who trades sons with the head of the Italian mafia as part of tenuous truce.” But when the head of the Kansas City mafia dies, all bets are suddenly off. The synopsis goes on to say, “It’s a story of immigration and assimilation, and the things we do for money. And as always, a story of basically decent people who are probably in over their heads. You know, Fargo.”

The Fargo Season 4 cast also includes Jason Schwartzman, Ben Whishaw, Jessie Buckley, musician and whistler Andrew Bird, E’myri Crutchfield, Jack Huston, and more. You can watch the official trailer, which features Andrew Bird briefly, below.

Meanwhile, Andrew Bird will be on tour with Erika Wennerstrom this spring.
