watch Julie Byrne play “I Live Now As A Singer” in a church (a BV Session)

Folk singer Julie Bryne released her excellent new album Not Even Happiness earlier this year, and she’s been playing tons of shows since its release. One of those shows was at the gorgeous Park Church Co-Op in Greenpoint in June, a perfect setting for Julie’s sound. Before soundcheck for that show, we recorded Julie performing “I Live Now As A Singer.” She was joined by a violinist and a keyboardist for the performance, and though she often plays guitar, she was just singing for this one. She sounds as great as she does on record, and the church’s acoustics certainly don’t hurt. Watch the video (shot by Jessica & Alberto Amaya, recorded and mixed by Jasno Swarez) below. Pictures of the night are in the gallery above.

Julie will open the Brooklyn stop of Steve Gunn‘s tour at another cavernous venue, the Murmrr Theatre at the Union Temple of Brooklyn on 9/16 (tickets). She also plays day two of the Lincoln Calling Music Festival with Angel Olsen, Charles Bradley, and more.
