Marco Benevento

watch Marco Benevento's trippy "Send It On A Rocket" video ++ new dates added

If indie bands are gonna keep crossing over into jam band territory, it only makes sense that jam bands are gonna cross over into indie territory too. Marco Benevento — who has collaborated with everyone from indie staples AC Newman and Kevin Morby to members of Phish and the Grateful Dead — has actually been doing just that since way before anyone was writing thinkpieces on the matter, and if indie rock fans are still sleeping on him, his new album Let It Slide makes him harder to ignore in the indie world than ever. Almost the entire album channels the same kind of electronic-tinged psychedelic pop that made Tame Impala famous, and though Marco probably won’t be headlining arenas anytime soon, he certainly knows his way around a hook.

I wrote the above about Marco Benevento‘s new album Let It Slide for Notable Releases last month, and we’re now premiering the video for “Send It On A Rocket” off that album. This is very much one of the gooey psychedelic pop songs that fans of Tame Impala (and MGMT and The Flaming Lips, etc) will probably dig, and it comes with a perfectly-matched, animated, psychedelic video made by Qieer Wang. Marco tells us:

I hooked up with Qieer (pronounced “Cheer”) through Amy Hood (check her out!) who was in our video “Dropkick” from a few years back. I was immediately drawn into the abstract expression of her animation and completely blown away by the kaleidoscopic color of her videos, which I felt went hand in hand with “Send It On A Rocket” — our psychedelic ear candy pop song. This song was recorded in two studios, Diamond Mine (Leon Michels) and Fred Short (my home studio), and it’s the perfect balance of both worlds: mine, a complete mess of synths and other sonic toys, and Leon’s, a warm, fuzzy blanket of vintage studio gear.

Watch below, and if you’d like a copy of Let It Slide, you can pick it up from Royal Potato Family’s webstore.

Marco also added more tour dates, including shows in Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Asheville, Charlotte, Charleston, Atlanta, Denver, and more.
