watch Mekons' "In the Desert" video, see them on tour in July

Punk/indie/folk/country/reggae greats Mekons released Deserted earlier this spring, their first album in eight years. Made in Joshua Tree, the record is about extreme conditions and surviving through them. Its centerpiece is “In the Desert,” which makes reference to the Iraq War, George W Bush, Tony Blair and Ozymandias, and features lead vocals from Sally Timms and drummer Steve Goulding. We’re premiering the animated lyric video for that song that playfully spells out its themes further. Watch that, and listen to Deserted in full, below.

Mekons will be on tour in July, beginning with three shows in Chicago, plus dates in Madison, WI, Pittsburgh, Philly, Brooklyn (Music Hall of Williamsburg on 7/19), Los Angeles, Big Sur’s Henry Miller Library (7/23) and more, with things wrapping up at the Calgary Folk Festival. All dates are listed below.
