Michael Stipe

watch Michael Stipe perform his Big Red Machine collab on 'Colbert'

R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe‘s solo career continues to take shape, and after recently releasing a live-performance “demo” of his new song “No Time For Love Like Now” — which was written with The National’s Aaron Dessner — Stipe has now performed that song on last night’s (4/7) at-home episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Colbert pointed out that they wrote the song for Dessner’s collaborative project with Justin Vernon, Big Red Machine, but no word yet if that means this will be part of a new Big Red Machine project or if it started as Big Red Machine but became a Stipe solo song, or none of the above. Either way, it sounds great and you can watch/listen below.

Stipe also recently released an “It’s the End of the World As We Know It” coronavirus PSA, playing off the renewal in popularity of 32-year-old single. And we just included a 1984 R.E.M. show in one of our daily roundups of live concert videos earlier this week.
