On June 8, Bad Brains played a surprise show at the opening of bad Brains member Darryl Jenifer’s Mind Power art show at Okayplayer’s Okay Space in Williamsburg. It was the first show in a while that had the classic lineup of HR, Dr. Know, Darryl Jenifer, and Earl Hudson, and it also included guest lead vocalists Randy Blythe of Lamb of God and original Bad Brains vocalist Sid McCray. Our pictures and review of the show are HERE.

Okayplayer has now released an official video of Mind Power‘s opening night, which includes footage of the band (HR, Randy, and Sid all included) plus an exclusive interview with Darryl. Watch it below. Here’s an excerpt of the interview:

“We knew each other before Bad Brains so it’s like a family — big brother, little brother, and we played music other than punk rock and all that before,” Jenifer says in the video. “So it’s just a family — it’s all we know, it’s all I know, it’s what I do, it’s what I’ve done for most of my adult life. It’s what I live.”

The art show features Darryl’s work along with five Bad Brains-inspired original works by Shepard Fairey, and Bad Brains photography by Lucian Perkins, John Mousheghian and Craig Wetherby. If you haven’t checked out the art show yet, it runs through August 9. On July 26, there will be an artist talk with Darryl (RSVP).

Bad Brains’ first non-secret show in a while (and only announced date of 2017) will be at Chicago’s Riot Fest. The band is promising “all original members plus special guests” so it sounds like it’ll be something like the Okay Space set.

Riot Fest’s lineup also includes Jawbreaker, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, Cap’n Jazz, Danzig, Wu-Tang Clan, Paramore, At the Drive-In and much more (full lineup and tickets).
