watch the Comic-Con trailer for HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ series

watchmen trailer

After a teaser earlier this year, HBO has shared the first full-length trailer for its upcoming Watchmen series. It premiered today at San Diego Comic-Con — though there was no panel for the series — and now they’ve shared it with everyone else. As showrunner Damon Lindelof (LOST, The Leftovers) has said, this series is not an adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ endlessly influential mid’80s graphic novel but, in the words of HBO’s press release, “embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name while attempting to break new ground of its own.” You can definitely tell this is something new — and also tell it’s from the guy who made The Leftovers — in the trailer which is set to David Bowie’s “Life on Mars.” Watch below.

Watchmen‘s cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing and James Wolk. The series debuts in October.

In other news, ScreenRant reports Alan Moore, who famously has hated every adaptation of his work and will probably not watch this show, has officially retired from writing comics with the release of the final issue of his League of Extraordinary Gentlemen series:Volume IV: The Tempest. Moore hasn’t retired from everything, saying he want to work on novels and screenplays.
