watch the new 'Game of Thrones' trailer; 'Vinyl' loses its showrunner

Game of Thrones S6

We are less than two weeks away from the start of Game of Thrones‘ sixth season. The gala S6 premiere screening in Hollywood was last night and today we get a new trailer featuring many quick glimpses of what’s to come: white walkers, dragons, a blind Arya in training, bloodletting, a supposedly dead Jon Snow, and good Tyrion bon mot. This season will be new for folks whether you’ve read the books or not, as much of Season 6’s storylines have moved past the books (George R.R. Martin has missed a few Winds of Winter deadlines), and producers say storylines are deviating further and further from the novels as well. Watch the new trailer below.

HBO also recently posted a video of the GoT cast playing the game “Game of Thrones Sword or ’80s Metal Band?” Which is Hearteater? Watch below.

In other HBO news, last night was the final episode for the Duplass Brothers’ terrific Togetherness, which got canceled after just two seasons. (Rather shocking, as not much gets canceled on HBO these days.) Meanwhile Vinyl, which will be back for a second season, has parted ways with co-creator/showrunner Terrence Winter (who also worked on The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire). Surprising news and, given the show’s less-than-stellar first season (the finale is this Sunday), this may be a good or a bad thing.
