Psychobilly vets Tiger Army released their sixth album Retrofuture on Rise Records last week, and we’re now premiering the video for its song “Devil That You Don’t Know.” As the title hints at, it puts a dark, eerie twist on classic rockabilly and the Travis Shinn-directed video is just as nostalgic and creepy as the song itself. Here’s what frontman Nick 13 tells us about the song and video:

“Devil That You Don’t Know” exists because I read a bio about The Cramps – Lux & Ivy lived in Ohio after abruptly leaving California under the shadow of legal trouble, prior to starting the band in NYC. While in Ohio, Ivy bought an old fuzz pedal in a pawn shop – I did some research, figured out what it would’ve been and tracked one down. When I plugged it into an early-60s Fender Amp with the tremolo way up, this song poured out.

Talking with director Travis Shinn about his ideas for the video, we were on the same page right away: he was thinking a psychedelic, 60s-inspired approach. I’ve long been a fan of Kenneth Anger and I threw out the idea of using his experimental short films as references, especially ‘Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome’ and ‘Scorpio Rising’. Travis loved the idea and really ran with it, mixing the Anger influence with his own ideas until he’d created something unique and beautiful.

Tiger Army are also on tour now, including an upcoming NYC show at Knitting Factory Brooklyn on October 4 with Sadgirl (tickets). All dates are listed below.
