watch Washed Out play “Olivia” in the Moog Sound Lab
by Bill Pearis
The Moog Sound Lab is a video series where bands and artists are invited to perform in the Moog Music factory in Asheville, North Carolina. With an arsenal of Moog equipment at their disposal, the musicians offer radically new takes on their material.
The first in the series was Toro Y Moi. Now here’s Washed Out, who revamp “Olivia,” a song that was originally on main man Ernest Greene’s first cassette release, High Times. Its ’80s electro vibe gives way to much more lush, transportive textures here thanks to an arpeggiated riff using Moog’s Little Phatty, and a gurgling low end courtesy of the Minitaur Analog Bass Synthesizer. You can watch Washed Out perform the Moog Sound Lab version of “Olivia” and check out more pics from the session, below.
