Waxahatchee played in the round at Le Poisson Rouge (pics, video)
Waxahatchee just released Great Thunder, an EP of new recordings of six of the songs from Katie Crutchfield’s now defunct project of the same name with former Swearin’ bassist Keith Spencer, and she’s been on tour with Anna St. Louis and Night Shop. That tour just stopped in NYC for a pair of shows: The Bell House on Sunday (9/9), part of the venue’s tenth anniversary celebration, and an in-the-round performance at Le Poisson Rouge on Monday (9/10). The unique set up led to an intimate atmosphere at Monday night’s show, as did Katie’s choice to play partially solo, partially with a more stripped-down backing band than usual. Night Shop, the project of Flat Worms member Justin Sullivan (who also used to drum in The Babies and Kevin Morby’s band), releases his debut album, In The Break, on Friday (9/14) via Morby’s Mare Records. It features contributions from Monday night’s other opener, Anna St. Louis, and Katie Crutchfield reviewed the album for The Talkhouse, where you can also stream it now ahead of its release.
