Waxahatchee release "Silver" video + 'Out In The Storm' details

Yesterday, info surfaced that Waxahatchee would release their new album Out In The Storm on July 14 via Merge, and that the first single is “Silver.” Now a video for “Silver” is out (made by Catherine Elicson). The song is an unpolished-but-clear dose of ’90s-style indie rock, and it’s very full-sounding. Part of that is likely due to the fact that they worked with legendary indie rock producer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr), who suggested that they record most of the album live as a band. Main member Katie Crutchfield was joined by her twin sister (and Merge labelmate) Allison Crutchfield on keyboards and percussion, Katherine Simonetti on bass, Ashley Arnwine (also of Pinkwash) on drums, and Katie Harkin (of Sky Larkin and a touring member of Sleater-Kinney) on lead guitar.

Katie Crutchfield and Katherine Simonetti will be playing some duo shows ahead of the new album’s release, opening for The New Pornographers. That includes NYC’s Terminal 5 on April 26. (tickets are still on sale)

Katie and Allison Crutchfield will also join forces for “An Afternoon Jam Session” on May 21 at Milk Studios (450 W 15th St) from 4 – 5:30 PM. That’s part of Vulture Festival.
