We Were Promised Jetpacks releasing new album (stream "Hanging In")

Scottish indie rockers We Were Promised Jetpacks recently announced a tour and put out a teaser video, making it look like an album was on the way, and that was in fact the case. WWPJ will release their fourth album, The More I Sleep, The Less I Dream, on September 14 via Big Scary Monsters in the UK/EU (pre-order), and it’s being self-released in the US. The album was produced by Jonathan Low (who’s worked with The National, Frightened Rabbit, Kurt Vile, and others), and the first single is “Hanging In,” which premieres in this post. The band tells us, “‘Hanging In’ was the last song we wrote for the album, and once we finished it we knew we were ready. Thematically, it pulls the rest of the album together so it makes sense for it to be the first single, and the first song people hear.” It’s a nice dose of big, sweeping, dramatic indie rock — the kind of thing WWPJ have always excelled at — but they also sound refreshed here. It doesn’t just sound like the same old We Were Promised Jetpacks; it sounds grander. Listen below.

As mentioned, the band is going on an international tour, including shows at NJ’s Asbury Lanes on October 24 and NYC’s Brooklyn Steel on October 29 (tickets). All dates are listed below.
