Toronto band Weaves will release their second album, Wide Open, on October 23 via Kanine/Buzz/Memphis Industries. This comes barely a year after their terrific self-titled debut which is currently vying for the 2017 Polaris Music Prize. “We got back from the tour with Mitski on November 22nd and I started writing November 23rd,” says frontwoman Jasmyn Burke. “We spent three months writing and pretty much figured out the album in its entirety in that timeframe. With the year we had I think we really hit this sweet spot where your brain is fully ready for something new, but has absorbed all of this information and it all just spews out.”

The first single from the new album is “#53,” a glittery anthem that has an almost Psychedelic Furs feel to it. “When writing ‘#53’ I let out how I was feeling about a lot of things,” says Jas. “Existing on the road, existing at home, living in a time when a lot of younger people feel helpless — it’s all given me a new vigor and desire to be ferocious with our music.” You can listen to “#53” below.

You can preorder Wide Open now. Weaves will be on tour this fall and play Brooklyn on October 17 at Rough Trade. Tickets to that show go on AmEx presale today at noon, with the general on-sale starting Friday, August 4 at noon. All tour dates are listed below.
