Toronto’s Weaves and Philly’s Cayetana are both playing lots of shows this year and they’re currently on a run together, which wraps up in Philly tonight (8/26). They just played NYC together at Mercury Lounge on Wednesday (8/24) and Baby’s All Right last night (8/25). Cayetana headlined the Merc show, while Weaves headlined Baby’s.

We caught last night’s show, which kicked off with an opening set from Brooklyn’s Frame. I knew absolutely nothing about the band going into the show, and ended up being pretty impressed. They kinda have Cure-ish guitars, good choruses. Solid opening set.

Cayetana were up next. I’ve seen them a bunch of times and they never get old, even when they stick to similar setlists (they still only have one album). Last night was a little extra special though, because they took the chance to debut some new material which sounded great. Hopefully this means we’ll be getting that sophomore album sooner than later.

Then finally it was Weaves, who just recently released their own debut album. Their stuff is poppy, but there’s a lot of weird noisy sounds going on in there too (they call it “bent-pop”), and all those sounds came across live. It’s a standard rock setup, but the guitarist’s pedals and non-traditional use of a slide added a nice dose of weirdness.

Pictures of the Baby’s show are in the gallery above.
