Werner Herzog dealing with massive egos on ‘Cobra Verde’ set

Brilliant German filmaker Werner Herzog likes extremes, having spent most of his cinematic career exploring man’s role with nature. He has cooked and eaten his shoe, dragged a massive boat over a Peruvian mountain, and repeatedly worked with nutjob Klaus Kinski (not our Klaus, who is a peach). He’ll face what could be his most difficult directing challenge yet when he gets behind the cameras for the webcast of The Killers’ upcoming show at The Paradise Theatre in the Bronx on September 18. Tickets are currently on pre-sale for that one with the general on-sale starting Friday (8/31) at noon.

Inexplicable on its own, this is part of the American Express Unstaged series where bands are paired with iconoclastic filmmakers. Previous match-ups in the series include David Lynch / Duran Duran; Hamish Hamilton / Usher; and Gary Oldman / Jack White. Stream for the show, which happens the same night (9/18) as the release of The Killers new album Battle Born, will happen here.

Werner Herzog’s next film is Queen of the Desert, a biopic about British writer/explorer Gertrude Bell starring Naomi Watts in the title role.
