WFMU Record Fair is this weekend: more performances & screenings ++ get $2 off admission

The WFMU Record Fair is this weekend (April 27 – 29) at Brooklyn Expo Center, featuring over 200 vintage vinyl dealers with thousands of records to flip through and buy. Hours are 7-10 PM on Friday, and 10 AM – 7 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $7 per day, or you can buy a $25 three-day pass that gets you early admission on Friday. Proceeds go to help keep WFMU on the air. You can get $2 off daily admission by showing the coupon above. Show it on your phone, or print it out.

In addition to all the hot wax, there are live performances and Sarah Shook & The Disarmers have just been added to Saturday’s lineup which also includes Wreckless Eric, Brower, Hurry, and a DJ set from Jonathan Toubin.

There is also the Movie Lounge which is showing some pretty great stuff including musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Harry Nilsson’s The Point on Saturday; then on Sunday the lineup includes cult Japanese monster movie Matango (“Fungus of Terror!”), documentary Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye, Scandinavian witchcraft pseudo-documentary Haxan, and Trent Harris’ amazing, must-see The Beaver Trilogy. 1:00pm: The Manson Family: An Opera – directed by John Moran
Document of John Moran’s 1990 opera about the Manson Family featuring Iggy Pop as the prosecutor.

1:50pm: The Point – directed/animated by Fred Wolf,
The classic animation from 1971 featuring the narration and music of Nilsson.

SUNDAY:

10:30am: Matango directed by Ishiro Honda
Castaways on an island fall prey to mushrooms that turn them into mutants in this bizarre 1963 Japanese horror movie.

12:00pm: Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages – directed by Benjamin Christensen
1922 Swedish-Danish silent notorious for its psuedo-documentary portrayal of witchcraft involving nudity, torture, and perversion.

2:00pm: Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World – directed by Catherine Bainbridge and Alfonso Maiorana
Documentary about the unheralded influence of Native-American musicians on the development of rock ‘n’ roll. Courtesy of Kino Lorber.

4:00pm: Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye – directed by Marie Losier
The story of how Genesis P-Orridge and his partner Lady Jaye attempted to transform their identities through plastic surgery.

5:15pm: The Beaver Trilogy – directed by Trent Harris
Documentary shot in 1979, 1981, and 1985 featuring the exploits of Olivia Newton-John impersonator “Groovin’ Gary.” The 1979 episode features Gary himself; Sean Penn plays Gary in the 1981 episode; and Crispin Glover reprises the role in the 1985 section.
