Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…

Death, The Everymen, Purling Hiss @ Le Poisson Rouge
Detroit protopunk band Death, who were little known in their time but rediscovered a few years back and have now made their legend known (thanks in part to their documentary), have some of the most menacing punk songs to come out of the ’70s and they still rip today. LPR is a great venue to catch them in, and any opportunity to these guys is one worth taking. The show is being opened by NJ garage rockers The Everymen (who play one of the final Maxwell’s shows next week) and Purling Hiss, whose great new album, Water on Mars, makes them very worth seeing.

John Grant, Empress Of @ Bowery Ballroom
Playing his biggest NYC yet (moved up from Mercury Lounge), John Grant is visiting from Iceland supporting his terrific second solo album, Pale Green Ghosts. Empress Of open, making for a highly recommended show. Tickets are still available.

Weyes Blood, Strawberry Hands, Dandelion Fiction, James Strong @ Silent Barn
Weyes Blood (aka onetime Jackie-O Motherfucker member Natalie Mering) makes brilliantly crafted drone folk and she returns to Silent Barn tonight for a show that also includes Strawberry Hands, Dandelion Fiction, and James Strong.

Night Beds @ Maxwell’s
Winston Yellin’s indie folk project Night Beds brought his tour to NYC for a show at Glasslands last night, and now he’s sticking around the area for a show at Hoboken’s Maxwell’s tonight, one of the last shows at the NJ venue.

The Numerators, Burnt Ones, A Rex & J Rex @ Cake Shop
San Francisco’s glam-psych trio Burt Ones are on tour supporting their new album, You’ll Never Walk Alone, which is out now on Burger Records. (Stream it on Spotify.) Quality locals The Numerators play as well.

There’s a few good comedy options tonight too like Night Train w/ Wyatt Cenac @ Littlefield, Broken Comedy w/ Hannibal Buress @ Bar Matchless, Doug (Benson) Loves Movies @ Gramercy Theatre, and Mike Birbligia @ Union Hall. For more laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar.

Bow Wow Wow, Gene Loves Jezebel @ Grand Victory
Don’t get too excited, ’80s fans: This line-up of Bow Wow Wow only contains one original member (bassist Leigh Gorman) with singer Annabela Lwin nowhere in sight; meanwhile, this GLJ is fronted by Michael Aston (while his brother, Jay, tours Europe also using the name).

If you use Google Reader, you probably already know it’s shutting down after today. Lifehacker offers up some alternatives for RSS enthusiasts.
