What’s going on Sunday? (Jo Schornikow, Ratking, White Prism, Flamin’ Groovies, Monkey: Journey to the West & more)

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…

Jo Schornikow @ Manhattan Inn (FREE)
Manhattan Inn is hosting a number of free shows this summer, and one of the highlights happens tonight: a solo set from former Shivers member/current Phosphorescent member Jo Schornikow.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band @ McKittrick Hotel
Preservation Hall Jazz Band kick off their week-long residency with “surprise special guests” at McKittrick Hotel (home of Sleep No More) tonight. The residency is in support of their new album, That’s It (stream it), and runs through this Saturday (7/13).

Ratking, DJ Dog Dick, Wavy Spice & more @ Santos Party House
Sex Magazine is throwing a party at Santos tonight with a pretty hefty lineup that includes NYC rap trio Ratking, Pictureplane collaborator DJ Dog Dick, Wavy Spice (who just played the June Red Bull Sound Select show), and more. Admission is the low price of $5 at the door.

White Prism, My Midnight Heart @ Ace Hotel (FREE)
If your taste in synthpop leans towards the Italo stylings of Sally Shapiro, you might want to check out Brooklyn’s White Prism (stream below), who will be playing Ace Hotel every Sunday night in July. Tonight’s kickoff also features My Midnight Heart. 10 PM, free.

Monkey: Journey to the West @ Lincoln Center
Damon Albarn, Chen Shi-Zheng, and Jamie Hewlett’s musical take on one of China’s most famous tales features acrobats, martial arts, and an array of contortionists. It made its NYC debut last night and continues tonight.

Flamin’ Groovies @ Maxwell’s
This is the first tour for the powerpop legends to feature guitarist Chris Wilson since 1981. Shake some action and check em’ out. Last night the tour hit Bowery Ballroom, and tonight it comes to the soon-to-close Maxwell’s. Support at tonight’s show comes from the Norton Records-signed blues band Daddy Long Legs (stream some of their stuff on Spotify).

Caveman & others @ Surf Lodge
The free shows at Montauk’s Surf Lodge continue today. The full lineup includes Vacationer, Caveman, Native Run, and The Wild Feathers, but if you’re headed that way, we especially think it’s worth catching Caveman.

Cyndi Lauper @ NJPAC
Cyndi Lauper has been celebrating the 30th anniversary of her debut album, She’s So Unusual, on tour this year. Things got pretty crazy when the tour hit Austin, with Cyndi running into the crowd for “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” (check out pictures on BV Austin), so hopefully her NYC-area shows will be just as good of a time. Tonight she’s in NJ and she’ll hit Beacon Theatre on Wednesday (7/10).
