Wild Nothing

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…

Beck @ Le Poisson Rouge
Beck is in the neighborhood on his way to the Newport Folk Festival and Jones Beach, and will bring a taste of Newport to LPR tonight for a very intimate acoustic performance. He’ll be in full-band form when he plays Prospect Park next weekend.

Bob Dylan, Wilco, My Morning Jacket @ Pier A (Hoboken)
The Americanarama tour rolls into Hoboken tonight with three generations of rootsy rock and, probably, a little musical cross-pollination.

Tamaryn, Mirror Mirror, Haribo @ 285 Kent Avenue
285 Kent will save on A/C bills as Tamaryn is sure to keep things cool with her icy goth shogaze.

Dick Dale @ Brooklyn Bowl
The self-proclaimed King of Surf Guitar will prove tonight that “Miserlou” makes just as good a soundtrack to knocking down pins as it does to the opening credits of Pulp Fiction.

Dirty Fences, Juniper Rising, Elliot & the Ghost, Cosmic Idiot @ Cake Shop
Fans of hazy country will want to check out Brooklyn trio Juniper Rising who just released a cassette via Burger Records. You may recognize the lap steel player as Kevin Faulkner of The Men. You can stream a few tracks below.

Barr/Shea/Dahl vs. Seabrook/Walter/Lipson, Vaz, Drose, Murderedman, Barr/Marston Duo @ Death By Audio
Mick Barr shows up twice on a bill at Death by Audio tonight, first as part of a stripped down, malformed version of Krallice (also with guitarist Colin Marston) and later as part of a bill with names like Weasel Walter as part of Barr/Shea/Dahl vs. Seabrook/Walter/Lipson. Make sure and catch the sickeningly underrated Vaz, who is also on board for the eve. That’s a hell of a lot of musicianship for $7.

Dawnbringer, Kings Destroy, Crypter, Polygamyst @ Saint Vitus
It’s a rare rare treat to see Chris Black on NYC.  This time he brings the great Dawnbringer for their first NYC appearance, part of a rare weekend of dates Eastward for the Midwest band.  We couldn’t be more excited for a night of old-school fist-raising heavy metal power.

Porcelain Raft (DJ Set), Heathered Pearls (DJ Set), Courtship (DJ Set) @ Glasslands
This late night DJ party is dubbed “Soon-To-Be Innocent Fun.” Given the spinners’ own music, this will likely be a chilled out night. Or will it?

Wild Nothing @ Maxwell’s
After opening for Father John Misty, Wild Nothing works in a headlining show — and one of the last-ever at Maxwell’s. Sold out.

Sproton Layer @ Mercury Lounge
Long before he formed Mission of Burma, Roger Miller played in psych band Sproton Layer. Their early records were just reissued and will be playing a rare show tonight. Tickets are still available. Mission of Burma, meanwhile, play two shows at Maxwell’s on Sunday.

The Gaslight Anthem, Bouncing Souls @ Pier 26
The Gaslight Anthem kick off their first of three NYC shows tonight. This one’s a large outdoor one with support from their Jersey punk forefathers Bouncing Souls.

Switch, Neon Indian (DJ Set), Grandmaster Flash, Octo Octa, Roxy Cottontail, Cousin Cole @ Pier 81
You can have a much dancier night on a pier by heading to Pier 81 for this mini-festival that includes a DJ set from Neon Indian, Octo Octa, and more.

Low Fat Getting High, Old Monk & more @ Don Pedro (FREE)
Catchy, hi-speed Brooklyn punks Low Fat Getting High play a free show at Don Pedro in Brooklyn tonight. These guys play NYC a lot (their next show is Monday), but they’re always a good local band to catch, especially if you haven’t yet.

Lockets, Butter The Children, Breakfast In Fur, eskimeaux @ SPiN
Midtown ping pong club SPiN is hosting some live music tonight, and it’s especially worth seeing NYC pop shoegazers Butter the Children.

The Muffs @ The Bell House
’90s era indie punks The Muffs return to the NYC-area for the first time since 2011 this week. Last night they were at Maxwell’s, and tonight they’ll be in Brooklyn at The Bell House.

Small Black, American Royalty, Joywave @ The Bowery Hotel (FREE)
This show, featuring a dancey line-up headlined by reformed chillwavers Small Black,  is part of the “School Night” series (um, it’s Friday?). It’s free with RSVP.

Nick Catchdubs (DJ Set), DJ Wonder, Kitty Cash (DJ Set) @ The Wall
Nick Catchdubs is celebrating the release of his new single, “Bizness” (out now on Fool’s Gold), in NYC tonight with a release party at The Wall (251 W 30th St). DJ Wonder and Kitty Cash are on the bill too.

Paul Weller @ Webster Hall
The Modfather plays his second of three NYC shows tonight. Expect well-tailored suits, consummate professionalism, and a smattering of classic songs from throughout his 30+ year career.

Psychemagik, Daniel Avery, JDH & Dave P @ Sullivan Room
FIXED throws a party at Sullivan Hall tonight with disco-y UK dance duo Psychemagik and Daniel Avery, who’s in town for Warm Up tomorrow.

Night Birds, Iron Chic, Red Dons, Grime Watch, No Control, The Sub Atomic Waves @ No Fun Club
Surfy skate punks Night Birds and their Grave Mistakes labelmates Red Dons continue their NYC-area run in Long Island tonight.

Trampled By Turtles, The Devil Makes Three, Brown Bird @ Prospect Park Bandshell (FREE)
Another free Celebrate Brooklyn! show in Prospect Park tonight leaning on the indie folk side with a headlining set from Trampled by Turtles.

Sinead O’Connor @ Alice Tully Hall
Performing songs from her album, The Gospel Sessions, the Irish singer will be backed by members of The Blind Boys of Alabama and The Soul Stirrers. Part of the Lincoln Center Festival.

Kronos Quartet, The Gloaming @ Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center (FREE)
KRONOS at 40 continues tonight with Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman)’s other group, The Gloaming. Part of the Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival.

Monkey: Journey to the West @ Lincoln Center
Damon Albarn, Chen Shi-Zheng, and Jamie Hewlett’s musical take on one of China’s most famous tales is part opera, part Cirque du Soleil.

Comedy options for tonight include: Lil Rel @ Gotham Comedy Club; shoulder-pad-loving Paula Poundstone @ City Winery; and Janeane Garofalo, Mike Yard @ Eastville Comedy Club.
