What's going on Tuesday? (Beth Orton, Lee Ranaldo, Red Baraat, Mutant Supremacy, Chain & the Gang and more)

Lee Ranaldo @ Celebrate Brooklyn! 2012 (more by Dana [distortion] Distortion)
Lee Ranaldo

Beth Orton @ Town Hall, Oct. 2012 (more by Toby Tennenbaum)

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…

Beth Orton, Dawn Landes @ Le Poisson Rouge
Fresh off the Newport Folk Fest, UK singer Beth Orton plays her first of two shows in NYC. Tickets are still available.

Chain & the Gang, Mindtroll, Flown @ The Bowery Electric
Ian Svenonius’ band Chain & the Gang have an upcoming 285 Kent show with Hunx & his Punx happening soon, but tonight you can catch them headline a smaller space, Manhattan’s Bowery Electric.

Bombino, Janka Nabay & The Bubu Gang, Mamarazzi @ Brooklyn Bowl
Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang, Mamarazzi @ Brooklyn Bowl
Bubu king Janka Nabay, who helped popularize that traditional Sierra Leonean style of music in America, always brings the party, and tonight he’s part of a bill at Brooklyn Bowl that also includes Bombino and Mamarazzi. Should be a good time.

Ethan Johns @ Rockwood Music Hall
Producer Ethan Johns has worked with tons of big names in the studio. Tonight he is the musician at his first-ever North American show at Rockwood Music Hall.

Rasputina @ City Winery (FREE)
The gothy cello-driven group play a free show as part of the Hudson Square Wine Festival. 5 PM.

Mutant Supremacy, Wizardry, Gentlemen, Blackout, Polygamyst @ Acheron
Death metal killers Mutant Supremacy will return from a few dates out of town to headline a bill of local fun with Wizardry, Gentlemen, Blackout and Polygamyst. It will likely be the last ever Wizardry and Gentlemen shows, as bassist/friend of the site Frank Garcia will bid NYC adieu at the end of the month. Come out and support local metal!

People of the North, Endless Boogie, Ramble Tamble, Sand Paper @ Death By Audio
Oneida offshoot People of the North headline tonight’s DBA show that also features Endless Boogie (who just played the second-to-last night of Max Fish).

Lee Ranaldo and The Dust, Houndmouth @ Maxwell’s
It’s the second to last night of Maxwell’s existence, and tonight the venue will be headlined by Lee Ranaldo, whose band Sonic Youth has not only played Maxwell’s throughout their career, but SY/Dust drummer Steve Shelley is also a part owner. This one should be especially bittersweet.

Frank Turner And The Sleeping Souls, Off With Their Heads, Ben Marwood @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
British folk punk Frank Turner is over in North America for last weekend’s Newport Folk Festival and this coming weekend’s Osheaga Festival. He’s doing some club dates in between those fests, including two nights in Brooklyn at the intimate (for his standards) Music Hall of Williamsburg this week. Tonight and tomorrow’s shows are both sold out, but Frank will return in the fall for a much larger show at Terminal 5.

Room Full of Strangers, Highly Suspect, Whiskey Bitches, Soundstatues @ Pianos
Orlando, FL’s Room Full of Strangers do a soulful take on ’60s garage, that’s not a million miles away from The Fleshtones. Their songs on Bandcamp are not bad at all. They also tend to wear ski masks and dress like this, so their live show could be fun.

Barenaked Ladies, Ben Folds Five, Guster @ Prospect Park Bandshell
We don’t know if we’d spend our “Last Summer on Earth” watching Barenaked Ladies, Ben Folds Five and Guster, but that’s what this ’90s nostalgia tour is called.

Red Baraat, Debo Band @ Fort Greene Park
Mixing funk, DC go-go and Northern Indian wedding party music, Red Baraat are a festive live experience. They even cover Punjabi MC’s “Mundian To Bach Ke” on their new album. Tonight they’re with Boston’s Debo Band for this free outdoor show. 7:30 PM.

Dick Dale @ YMCA Boulton Center For The Performing Arts
The self-proclaimed King of Surf Guitar will prove tonight that “Miserlou” makes just as good a soundtrack to knocking down pins as it does to the opening credits of Pulp Fiction.

Chuck Negron, Gary Puckett, Mark Lindsay, The Turtles @ Bergen Performing Arts Center
Often dismissed as bubblegum, The Turtles were one of the ’60s more underrated bands, with a ton of great songs beyond “Happy Together.” Main men Flo & Eddie are still at it, and headline this oldies tour. Let’s hope they play “Eleanor.”

The Manx, The Yellow Dress, Wood Spider, Death Rattle, Baby Mollusk @ The Ho_se
Three West Coast bands are on tonight’s acoustic-y bill: L.A.’s folk punks The Manx, and San Francisco’s twee-leaning The Yellow Dress and Portland’s Death Rattle.
