Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…
Vince Clarke (DJ Set) @ Le Poisson Rouge
The bleeping, blooping, bouncing sounds Vince Clarke created with Depeche Mode, Yazoo, The Assembly and Erasure are basically the blueprint for what most people think of as synthpop. Tonight he DJs for the first time ever in NYC.
MikeQ, MC Kevin JZ Prodigy, Vijuan Allure, Angel X, J-Cush, Durban @ 285 Kent Avenue
It’s a dance party at 285 Kent tonight with a ton of great names in underground electronic music.
Marcellus Pittman, Jackmaster, Dre Skull, RatKing, Rizzla @ MoMA PS1
Speaking of forward thinking electronic music, the Warm Up series continues today with mostly producers, but also indie rap trio Ratking.
Robert Hood (as Floorplan), Shifted, Holly Herndon, MGUN, Marcellus Pittman, Joey Anderson @ Output
And while we’re talking about that, Marcellus Pittman keeps the party going in Williamsburg tonight at Output. If you go to this show, you definitely won’t want to miss Holly Herndon, who makes excellent experimental music.
Beyonce @ Barclays Center
The Queen Bey begins her three night at Brooklyn’s new-ish arena, Barclays Center, tonight. Expect an elaborate stage show, and some new songs (along with the hits).
Midnight Magic, Mirror Mirror, JD Samson (of Le Tigre) (DJ Set) @ Brooklyn Bowl
Midnight Magic take you back to 1978 with their live-disco-band sound. Early show, 8 PM.
The Band in Heaven, Slavve @ Cake Shop
West Palm Beach’s The Band in Heaven once aimed for JAMC-style fuzz, but on their new album they’re as shiny and bright as the Florida sun.
Mondo: An Indie Dance Party @ Cameo Gallery
The only place where it’s appropriate to wear a cardigan in August is at Mondo! where the dapper dance to The Smiths, Saint Etienne, ’60s girl groups and more.
Pop. 1280, Pampers, Sunk Heaven @ Death By Audio
Post-punkers Pop 1280 are celebrating the release of their new LP Perversion with the raucous punk/garage of Pampers. Promises to be an fun evening of ripping new jams from the Sacred Bones artist.
The Depreciation Guild, Infinity Shred @ Glasslands
Kurt Feldman (who drums in Pains of Being Pure at Heart) has moved on to new romantic sounds with Ice Choir, but tonight gets his old 8-bit shoegaze band back to play their debut LP in full.
Psychedelic Furs, Spacehog @ Irving Plaza
It’s still okay to dance like Molly Ringwald, especially when seeing Richard and Tim Butler’s veteran alt-rock group turn on the hits. “Love My Way,” “Into You Like a Train,” and “President Gas” still sound great. ’90s-era glam rockers Spacehog open.
Big Ups, Et Al, Space Wolves, Lunchbox @ Shea Stadium
Brooklyn’s Big Ups have the attitude, look, and approach of ’90s post-hardcore, but they’re no nostalgia act. You can catch one of their many local shows tonight at Shea Stadium.
Jamie Lidell @ The Surf Lodge
The last of three Jamie Lidell shows this week. It’s in the Hamptons, and it’s free.
Dam-Funk, Thanksgiving Brown @ Union Pool (FREE)
Judging by the incredible funk jams that Dam-Funk busts out on the reg, its probably not so surprising that he’ll have some deep Deep DEEP crates when he DJ’s Union Pool tomorrow as part of the free afternoon Summer Thunder series. Bring your dancing shoes. Free.
Cannibal Ox, Prop Anon, Meyhem Lauren, Rasheed Chappell @ The Studio at Webster Hall
The legendary rap duo, who often tend to remain quiet, have been pushing their way back into the spotlight lately, and they’ve got another hometown show tonight. Also of note on this bill is Action Bronson associate Meyhem Lauren, who you won’t want to miss.
