Braids dropped standard rock instrumentation in favor of electronics for their new album, Flourish/Parsish, but has not changed the band’s gorgeous, ethereal appeal.

Joan of Arc, CO LA @ Mercury Lounge
After playing Brooklyn DIY venue Shea Stadium last night, Tim Kinsella’s band Joan of Arc and experimental electronic musician CO LA will head to Manhattan for a Mercury Lounge show tonight.

Willis Earl Beal @ Joe’s Pub
Blues lover Willis Earl Beal is set to release a new album next month (9/10), and tonight he’ll be in NYC for a Joe’s Pub show, where he’ll be debuting his new band (and presumably some of his new material). Should be interesting to see what he’s got in store.

Lakutis, Speakz, Chapman, DJ Uniique @ 285 Kent
Das Racist cohort/goofball rapper Lakutis headlines a billa t 285 Kent tonight ahead of his upcoming tour with Le1f and Antwon.

Electric People, Thee Dang Dangs @ Cake Shop
Get your daily dose of psych/garage rock by heading over to Cake Shop to catch Brooklyn’s Electric People and Denver’s surfy Thee Dang Dangs. You can stream Thee Dang Dangs’ recently released For The People LP, along with an Electric People track, below.

Wilsen, Imaginary People, Keenan O’meara, The Great American Canyon Band @ Pianos
If you’re into the folk pop of Laura Marling or Alela Diane, you might be into checking out Wilsen at Pianos tonight. Stream a track, “Dusk,” below.

Swingin’ Utters, The Challenged, Blk Galaga @ The Bell House
’90s era folk/cow-punks Swingin’ Utters, who reformed in 2010, are back with their second post-reunion album, Poorly Formed, this year, and tonight they’ll be in Brooklyn for a show at The Bell House.

Other shows of note tonight include Sarabande, Up and Orange, The Sway Machinery, Traktor Attack @ Cameo Gallery and The Tanks, MV Carbon, Nate Wooley, Chuck Bettis @ Silent Barn.

Comedy options tonight include Night Train, Wyatt Cenac, Sam Morril, RG Daniels @ Littlefield and Mike Birbligia @ Union Hall.
