What's going on Saturday? (Kanye, Danny Brown, Amanda Palmer, Perfect Pussy, Sirs, Crocodiles, Cymbals Eat Guitars & more)

Kendrick Lamar at Roseland Ballroom in February (more by Dylan Johnson)
Kendrick Lamar

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…

Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar @ Madison Square Garden
Kanye’s got two of the biggest, if not the biggest, rap albums of the current decade under his belt, and an elaborate stage show to deliver the material live. Plus he’s got one of the best current younger rappers opening tonight’s show. Night 3 of Ye’s 4-night run.

Sleigh Bells, Danny Brown, Doldrums @ Terminal 5
This is the second of two nights that this multi-genre triple bill hits Terminal 5, including the rage pop of Sleigh Bells, style-hopping rapper Danny Brown, and indie pop band Doldrums.

Neil Gaiman, Amanada Palmer @ Town Hall
Amanda and sci-fi scribe/hubby Neil Gaiman have planned “an intimate night of spoken word, songs, stories, chats with the audience, and more than a few surprises.”

Shannon and the Clams, Perfect Pussy, Habibi, A. Rex and J. Rex @ 285 Kent
A lover of vintage rock n’ roll and R n’ B, Shannon (who spent time in Hunx & His Punx and sang on the last Intelligence LP) brings that fun spirit to her own to this year’s Dreams in the Rat House. This is Shannon’s second NYC show this week and is a pretty killer bill all-around with the shouty shoegaze punk of Perfect Pussy, the girl group sounds of Habibi and garage poppers A. Rex and J. Rex.

Basia Bulat, Wilsen Luluc @ Bowery Ballroom
Basia Bulat will fill Bowery Ballroom with a night of enjoyable pop folk and her powerhouse pipes. If you like Basia, opener Wilsen should be up your alley too.

Holy Ghost (DJ Set), Alex Pasternak of Lemonade (DJ Set) @ Brooklyn Bowl
Holy Ghost!’s new album Dynamics furthers their love affair with ’80s synth and Arthur Baker dance-pop. Expect some vintage ’80s tracks in their DJ set tonight.

Kitty Pryde, Party Supplies, Dillon Cooper, Rugz D. Bueller @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
The shopping, food, and free music of Brooklyn Night Bazaar continues today with sets from the always-entertaining Kitty Pryde, Action Bronson collaborator Party Supplies, and more.

Work Drugs, Field Mouse, Teen Men @ Cameo Gallery
Makers of hazy guitar pop, Field Mouse play tonight while we wait for their full-length album. If you go, maybe ask them how that’s coming along?

Ejecta, Vulgar Fashion, Future Punx, Caroline Polachek (DJ Set) @ Glasslands
The new project from Ford & Lopatin’s Joel Ford and Neon Indian’s Leanne Macomber, Ejecta play a release party tonight for their debut album which is loaded with catchy electro. The whole synth-heavy night is good: Denton TX’s Vulgar Fashion ooze icy cool, and Brooklyn’s Future Punx rocket back to the new wave days of Oingo Boingo and Wall of Voodoo.

Cymbals Eat Guitars, Grooms, Daniel James @ Knitting Factory
It’s a night of indie rock guitar heroics with two of Brooklyn’s finest practitioners of said sound. Cymbals Eat Guitars lean more towards ’90s-style anthems, and Grooms tilt in Sonic Youth’s direction.

Crocodiles, Wymond Miles @ Music Hall Of Williamsburg
Crocodiles’ underrated new album, Crimes of Passion, finds the band straying further away from JAMC sonics and into more pop territory (not a bad thing); don’t miss opener Wymond Miles who when not playing guitar with Fresh & Onlys makes excellent dark-tinged postpunk ala early Echo & the Bunnymen.

Porches, Sirs, Shark?, Radical Dads @ Shea Stadium
There isn’t a band to miss on this stacked quadruple bill of the local indie/punk/DIY/whatever scene. Porches make what they call “bummer pop” and that’s actually a pretty apt description, Sirs make punky post-hardcore that feels equally indebted to Bear vs Shark and The Marked Men, Shark? make anthemic garage rock (it makes sense that Wavves included them on their GTAV station), and Radical Dads do indie rock like they did it in the ’90s, but not in a totally retro way. It’s also Sirs last-ever NYC show, so catch them while you still can.

GOASTT (Ghost of a Sabre Tooth Tiger), Tall Tall Trees @ Union Pool
If anyone has a right to ape the psych-pop sounds of The Beatles it’s Sean Lennon who does just that with his band Ghost of a Sabre Tooth Tiger who are now just going by the acronym GOASTT.

Mike Doughty, Moon Hooch @ Webster Hall
If you miss Mike Doughty’s old band Soul Coughing, you’re in luck tonight as this show he’ll be doing all Soul Coughing songs, though in slightly different arrangements — as heard on his new album Circles.
