Mutilation Rites, Subjugation, Sacrificial Massacre @ Acheron
Brooklyn black metal favs Mutilation Rites may be getting well-deserved attention these days — they’ll be playing Maryland Deathfest this year — but they still put in time as regulars on the NYC circuit. They’ll be joined by primitive and brutal Milwuakeeans Sacrificial Massacre and Subjugation and NYC’s Syphilitic Lust for a filthy 2014 black metal kickoff.
Thurston Moore, Daniel Carter, Samara Lubelski, Nate Wooley, Ryan Sawyer @ The Stone
Sonic Youth/Chelsea Light Moving guitar destroyer Thurston Moore continues his residency at The Stone tonight. The 8 PM show is with Samara Lubelski and Nate Wooley, and then the 10 PM show adds Daniel Carter and Ryan Sawyer the mix.
Living Colour @ Brooklyn Bowl
NYC rock vets of 30 years, Living Colour broke down racial barriers with their late-’80s/early-’90s albums Vivid and Time’s Up. Having spent most of 2013 touring their 1988 debut, expect a well-honed show — and hits like “Cult of Personality” and “Funny Vibe.”
Friend Roulette, Life Size Maps, Slavve, Iyez @ Glasslands
Perhaps NYC’s only pop band to feature a full-time clarinet player, Friend Roulette will release their new EP, Grow Younger, in February. You can stream a track from that below.
Turnip King, Drag Ur World, Bluffing, Kissing is a Crime @ Silent Barn
A solid bill of DIY-centric guitar pop, headlined by Sea Cliff, Long Island’s Turnup King — powerpop duo Bluffing and Kissing Is A Crime are worth checking out too.
