Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…

Neutral Milk Hotel, Elf Power @ Webster Hall
After releasing one of the most classic indie albums of all time with In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, Neutral Milk Hotel pretty much disappeared with frontman Jeff Mangum choosing to remain mostly out of the public eye. A few years ago, Mangum began touring again, but it wasn’t until late 2013 that Neutral Milk Hotel returned to the road. Their reunion tour finally came to NYC this week and this is the final night of their run.

Pixies, FIDLAR @ NJPAC
Pixies are moving forward without Kim Deal, having recently put out two new EPs and are now touring with fill-in bassist Paz Lenchantin. This show was supposed to happen last week (1/21) but was rescheduled for tonight. All tickets purchased for 1/21 will be honored.

Marnie Stern, Torres, Porches @ Baby’s Alright
Marnie Stern always brings face-melting guitar playing and a funny on-stage persona to her shows, and she should be a different yet great match for Torres’ confessional, grungy folk.

Janelle Monae @ Lehman College
One of the many shows happening in NYC this week in celebration of the upcoming Super Bowl is R&B boundary-pusher Janelle Monae. Expect some undeniable pop but someone who knows how to get weird too.

Aa, Yvette, Seven Teares, Rat Attack @ Death By Audio
Aa used to be regulars in the Brooklyn DIY scene, and though they had been quiet for a bit, they’re now back with their first album since 2007, VoyAager, which is full of live-band-meets-electronics weirdness. Tonight they’re joined by an equally experimental bill of local art rockers Yvette, Seven Teares (whose lineup includes Charlie Looker of Extra Life, Zs, Psalm Zero), and Rat Attack.

J. Cole @ The Theater at MSG
J. Cole may not have won the Grammy his song “Power Trip” was nominated for, but it’s still a hell of a banger and some of his other stuff is pretty good too.

Luther Dickinson and The Wandering, Alvin Youngblood Hart @ Merkin Concert Hall
Part of the New York Guitar Festival, tonight North Mississipi All-Stars frontman Luther Dickinson brings his southern-fried style to soundtrack Walter Ruttman’s 1927 documentary portrait of a Berlin long gone by, Berlin: Symphony of a Great City; while Alvin Youngblood Hart provides a score for Fatty Arbuckle comedy Out West.

Spires, Mainland, Lewis Lazar, Random Recipe @ Pianos
Do NYC shows ever cohere? Early on this bill are Montreal’s patchouli-scented female duo Random Recipe; later it’s poppy NYC rock band Mainland and superior locals Spires.

Bright Future, Elder/Brother, Dead Stars, The Everymen @ Glasslands
This is a bit of an odd bill, with electronic headliner Bright Future on an otherwise rock-y bill. We’re partial to Dead Stars who mine ’90s alt-pop (think Teenage Fanclub) with skill and hooks.
