What's going on Friday? (Quilt, Bleeding Rainbow, Pypy, Band of Horses, Marathon, Ski Lodge, Oneirogen & more)

Quilt at Mexican Summer Five (more by PSquared)
QUILT

Bleeding Rainbow @ Northside Fest 2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Bleeding Rainbow

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Quilt, Weyes Blood @ Mercury Lounge
Quilt make harmony-laden psych-folk like it’s San Francisco in the ’60s, and they do justice to that sound too. Weyes Blood’s drone folk should appeal to Quilt fans as well.

Bleeding Rainbow, Hunters, Fat Creeps @ Death by Audio
With a terrific new album, Interrupt, out now, Bleeding Rainbow hit their favorite Brooklyn spot for a record release show as their tour with Hunters wraps up this weekend.

Marathon, No Trigger, Fire When Ready, No Way @ Saint Vitus
New York punks Marathon are reuniting to headline this show, but they’re not the only band on the bill who went away for a while. No Trigger recently became active again and it doesn’t look like FIre When Ready have played in a while either. Should be a cool night all around. Sold out.

Band of Horses @ Town Hall
Band of Horses just released the full-set Acoustic at The Ryman live disc, and now they’re supporting that with an acoustic tour, which pulls into NYC tonight. Sold Out.

Pypy, Maicamia @ Cake Shop
What do you get when you take the singers of two of Montreal’s most exciting, volatile underground bands (Annie-Claude of Duchess Says and Choyce of CPC Gangbangs) and put them together? Pypy, who make crazed punk rock. This is the band’s first NYC show and live shows can be very wild. Sounds like fun. Also on the bill: Maicamia which features Godspeed’s Mauro Pezzente.

Ski Lodge, Starlight Girls, The Belle Game @ Glasslands
Say bon voyage to Brooklyn’s Ski Lodge and Starlight Girls as they head towards the madness of SXSW. Ski Lodge’s tourmates, Vancouver’s The Belle Game, play too.

Body Language, Joywave, The Echo-Friendly, Vensaire @ Brooklyn Nigh Bazaar
Brooklyn Night Bazaar offers weekends of local artisan shopping, gourmet eats, beer and wine, ping pong, black light minigolf and music all under one Greenpoint roof. Tonight’s a pretty dance-friendly line-up. Note that Widowspeak offshoot Vensaire are subbing for Jamaica Queens who dropped off tonight’s show.

The Great Valley, Happy Jawbone, Cigarette, SoftSpot, Enforcer @ Shea Stadium
Brattleboro, Vermont invades Shea Stadium tonight, including leaders of the scene, Happy Jawbone Family Band.

Har Mar Superstar, Smokey Robotic @ Knitting Factory
Entertaining goofball Har Mar Superstar can turn any place into a sweaty party, given his ability to mimic ’80s R&B and funk… he can breakdance too. This is his free monthly series at Knit, doors at midnight.

Oneirogen, Epistasis, New Firmament @ Trans Pecos
This is the monthly “Chaos Bodies” series that spotlights “Out-goth, post-industrial, & post-metal” curated by Charlie Looker (Extra Life) and Andrew Hock (Castevet), both of the newish industrial metal band Psalm Zero. Tonight: one-man doom/drone noisemaker Oneirogen. Black metal-ish prog heavies Epistasis and ambient project New Firmament.

Howler, Designer @ Baby’s All Right
These Minneapolis indie rockers are gearing up to release their new album, World Of Joy, and are in in NYC currently — this being their second show. This one’s early, too, with doors at 8 PM and it’s over by 10 PM.

Lo-Fang @ Baby’s All Right
The 4AD-signed Lo-Fang makes art pop that mixes electronic and acoustic instruments, and though he’s about to play some pretty big stages opening for Lorde, tonight you can catch him on his own in a smaller room. This is the second of three shows at Baby’s tonight, doors at 10 PM.

Full of Hell, Mutilation Rites, White Widows Pact @ The Acheron
Noisy hardcore band Full of Hell are a serious force as a live band, and tonight they bring that force to NYC for a show with local favorites Mutilation Rites.

Van She (DJ w/ Live Vocals), Saint Pepsi @ Glasslands
Australian synth popsters Van She last played NYC in September, and though they’re only DJing this show, they will have live vocals, so it should get more interesting than any old DJ set.

White Denim, The Districts @ Webster Hall
These psych-rockers tapped Jeff Tweedy to produce last year’s acclaimed Corsicana Lemonade where he encouraged them to take their 70’s stadium riffs even bigger.. Sold Out.

Surfer Blood, Rad Dreams, wake up @ Baby’s All Right
Florida’s poppy indie rockers Surfer Blood play this $5 late show (doors at midnight) ahead of tomorrow’s Glasslands show (which was moved there from Rough Trade).
