What’s going on Tuesday? (Cat Power, Gary Higgins, Sleepers Work, Liam Finn, Tibet House benefit, Lucero, Sin Fang & more)
Cat Power at Station to Station in 2013 (more by Lukas Hodge)
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…
Cat Power @ Music Hall of Williamsburg (early and late)
The solo shows Chan Marshall has been doing bring her back to the early days of Cat Power when it was just Chan on stage by herself (she does still include new stuff in the setlists though). Tonight she returns to NYC to do the solo thing here again with two shows (6 PM & 9:30 PM) at MHOW.
Iggy Pop, New Order, Patti Smith, Phillip Glass @ Carnegie Hall
It’s the annual Tibet House benefit with a typically amazing line-up.
Gary Higgins @ Baby’s All Right
Back in 1973, Gary Higgins released the psychedelic folk masterpiece, Red Hash, a record totally ahead of its time that gained the recognition it deserves years later. He remains active, and tonight he performs that record in full at Baby’s All Right.
Liam Finn, Shorts @ Union Pool
On his forthcoming album, The Nihilist, Finn played 67 instruments, which actually sounds about right. Anyone who’s seen his live shows knows the dude can play anything. And often does! This is the second of his March “Murmuration” residencies.
Sleepers Work, Joel Ford, SHRAF @ Bossa Nova Civic Club
Sleepers Work is the alias of Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist William Flynn who has toured with St. Vincent, and others. No Turn Before The Shoreline is the first full length release from Sleepers Work which shows off his moody, ambient R&B. Tonight’s the record release party for the album. Free.
Xenia Rubinos @ The Mercury Lounge
The eccentric Xenia Rubinos brings her one-of-a-kind show to Mercury Lounge tonight.
Pete Donnelly of The Figgs, Brett Newski, Miles Wick @ Cake Shop
Steeped in the tradition of The Replacements, Cheap Trick and Elvis Costello, The Figgs have been creating great power pop for two decades now, with no signs of stopping any time soon. Tonight frontman Pete Donnelly plays solo.
Sin Fang @ Chez Andre at The Standard Hotel
He’s dropped the “Bous” from his moniker but Seabear frontman Sindri Már Sigfússon continues to make dreamy electronics-heavy folk, most recently on 2013’s Flowers. This is a free show but you need to RSVP to email@example.com.
The Allman Brothers Band @ Beacon Theatre
Pioneers of jam bands, and progenitors of blues and southern rock, The Allman Brothers continue their multi-night run at Beacon Theatre tonight.
Dropkick Murphys, Lucero, Skinny Lister @ The Paramount
It wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day week without shows from Dropkick Murphys, and this year they wrap up their two-night stand in the NYC-area with tonight’s Long Island show. If you’re going, be sure to catch their country punk tourmates Lucero too.
Tonight’s Roosevelt show at Glasslands has been cancelled.
