La Femme @ BV SXSW day party (more by Amanda Hatfield)

For all of tonight’s shows, and tomorrow’s, check out our NYC concert calendar.

La Femme, Regal Degal, Future Punx, DJBP @ Glasslands
The title of Parisian band La Femme’s debut album, Psycho Tropical Berlin, is a pretty good summation of what to expect: crazed psychedelic pop with a krautrock/coldwave backbone and an affinity for surf rock. Add Ye-Ye enthusiasm and smoky Gainsbourg cool and you’ve got a sound magnifique. They genuinely wowed us at SXSW and we’re presenting tonight’s sold-out show. Local openers Future Punx and Regal Degal are worth catching too, and BV’s Bill Pearis is on DJ duty between sets. See ya there.

Tinariwen, The Melodic @ Brooklyn Bowl
Malian band Tinariwen bring their exotic sounds to NYC twice this week with shows at Brooklyn Bowl tonight and tomorrow.

Talib Kweli, Phony Ppl, YC The Cynic @ The Marlin Room at Webster Hall
To celebrate the late, great J Dilla, tonight the Marlin Room at Webster Hall hosts the inaugural “NY Loves Dilla” concert with veteran NYC rapper Talib Kweli and a couple of his local pals.

Fat White Family, Las Rosas, Baked, Flame Proof Moth @ Shea Stadium
The UK’s sleezy, depraved rock band have hit NYC after leaving their stink on Austin at SXSW. They really are a “must see live” band (warning: chances of onstage nudity are high), and this is your last of three chances here to do so to do so.

Burnt Ones, Raw McCartney, Rips, Stay At Home Dads @ Death by Audio
San Francisco’s Burnt Ones are flying a freak flag particular to that part of the country — one that is scuzzy and prolific. After numerous singles, EPs and LPs on a variety of imprints — including Burger — the band have landed at John Dwyer’s Castle Face Records who will release their third full-length, Gift, this week.

The Planets, Sic F*ucks, Pin Ups @ Bowery Electric
Seminal rock n’ roll zine The Trouser Press celebrates their 40th anniversary with this night featuring “bands, booze, tunes, stories, and souvenirs.” Fouding editor Ira Robbins says it will be a “private party that’s open to the public,” as much a reunion and celebration of a big anniversary…that also happens to have some bands relevant to what Trouser Press was all about.

Genesis P-Orridge, JG Thirlwell @ Rough Trade
The Throbbing Gristle/Psychic TV frontperson has a new photo book out and is celebrating with this free in-store conversation with Foetus frontman JG Thirlwell. Genesis will be signing copies of the book as well.

The xx @ Park Avenue Armory
The xx continue their run of 25 shows at the Park Avenue Armory which run through March 29. Each show is extremely intimate (holds 40 people) and very sold out.

Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Dex Romweber Duo @ Mercury Lounge
Rockabilly eccentric Dexter Romweber is best known as one half of Flat Duo Jets, but plays tonight under his own name. He’s the real deal.

Rough Francis, Thrill Sergents, Folding Legs @ The Grand Victory
Led by the three sons of Bobby Hackney of legendary protopunk band Death, Rough Francis just released Maximum Soul Power, which was more than a little influenced by their father’s band, giving the album a real ’70s-era punk vibe.

New Bums, Metal Mountains, Zachary Cale @ Baby’s All Right
New Bums is a duo featuring Ben from Six Organs of Admittance and Donovan from Skygreen Leopards. Their new album just came out on Drag City.

Thou, Anicon, Vorde, Skelptarsis @ Saint Vitus
Sludge metal bashers Thou will release their newest album, Heathen, this week (listen), and ahead of that they’ve got tonight’s Saint Vitus show, which follows yesterday’s ABC No Rio matinee.

Cut Copy (DJ), Turkish Prison, Alex English @ Verboten
Cut Copy just wrapped up two big sold-out Terminal 5 shows, but the Australians aren’t leaving NYC just yet. Head to new Williamsburg dance club Verboten tonight to see what tracks they’ll be spinning.

Ice Balloons, Rob Bryn, The Jist, DJ PreSkool @ Union Pool (FREE)
NYC’s Ice Balloons is the new-ish project from TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone, Wild Yaks’ Rob Bryn, and others, who make freaky, out-there synth punk. Catch them for FREE tonight.

Comedy Night @ Knitting Factory
Big league comedy talent (Chris Rock, Louis CK, etc) show up regularly (and unannounced) for Hannibal’s very popular free comedy show at Knitting Factory’s front bar. Get there early.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
