What's going on Sunday? (Cloud Nothings, Yamantaka Sonic Titan, Odonis Odonis, Protomartyr, Spray Paint & more)

Cloud Nothings at SS Coachella 2012 (more by Greg Cristman)
Cloud Nothings

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Cloud Nothings, Ryley Walker @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Following 2012’s drastically career changing Attack on Memory, Cloud Nothings have returned this year with a new album, Here and Nowhere Else, which like its predecessor pulls from punk, indie, post-hardcore and noise to unique and terrific results. Tonight their run with psych-folk guitarist Ryley Walker hits MHOW for their first of two sold-out NYC shows this week.

Yamantaka//Sonic Titan, Odonis Odonis, Sannhet @ Baby’s All Right
It’s a great and pretty diverse bill at Baby’s tonight with theatrical prog/metal/pop rockers Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, their Canadian noise rock neighbors Odonis Odonis, and Brooklyn post-metal/post-rockers Sannhet.

Protomartyr, Spray Paint @ Cake Shop
Detroit’s Protomartyr have a sense of urgency and anger that could’ve sprouted from somewhere like Manchester or Cleveland in 1979. The band’s new album, Under Color of Official Right, is a real ripper that evokes more than cribs from the postpunk era. They were great at our SXSW day party and this is your first of two chances this weekend to see them with Austin’s similarly spiky Spray Paint.

Small Black, Snowmine, Maria Minerva @ Bowery Ballroom
Brooklyn’s synthpop band Small Black just released a new EP, Real People, via Jagjaguwar and tonight’s show serves as both a celebration of that and the capper to their tour with Snowmine.

Public Speaking, Insect Factory, Michael Foster/Tristan Shepherd duo, Glockabelle @ Death by Audio
Experimental guitarist Insect Factory, who recently played DbA with Chris Brokaw, returns to the venue for a show with Brooklyn electronic artist Public Speaking and others tonight.

Porches. Being Alone. (film screenin)g @ Baby’s All Right
NYC indie rockers Porches have been steadily building a local following, and now filmmaker/photographer Heather Craig has filmed a tour documentary on the band, Being Alone, which premieres at Baby’s today during brunch (3 PM start).

Hannibal Buress @ Knitting Factory
Big league comedy talent (Chris Rock, Louis CK, etc) show up regularly (and unannounced) for Hannibal’s very popular free comedy show at Knitting Factory’s front bar. Get there early.

For all of tonight’s shows, and tomorrow’s, check out our NYC concert calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
