Tycho in Chicago in 2012 (more by Zach Pollack)
Tycho

Fear of Men at the Seaport in 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Fear of Men

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Tycho, Gardens and Villa @ Webster Hall
Tycho’s downbeat electronica is performed as a three-piece band live, giving it a vibe of post-rock you can sway to. Tonight’s show is sold out.

Fear of Men, Beverly, Beach Day, Alvvays @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
This weekend’s BKNB entertainment is brought to you by Kanine Records and is a great bill of indiepop, including UK band Fear of Men, Beverly (Drew Citron who’s also currently in TPOBPAH), Canada’s lovely Alvvays and Floriday trio Beach Day.

Celestial Shore, Krill, Netherfriends, Zula, Native America @ Silent Barn
There’s a lot of good music on this bill, including mathy indie pop band Celestial Shore, psychdelic pop band Zula, eccentric indie rockers Krill and more.

The Coathangers, Audacity @ Mercury Lounge
This is the second NYC show of The Coathangers’ tour with Audacity which has been bringing great double doses of garage punk all around North America.

Household, Good Throb, Priests, Arm Candy @ Death by Audio
This is the second DbA show for DC post-punks Priests and UK punks Good Throb, who played the same venue earlier this month. THe rest of the bill is good too, with strong local bands Household and Arm Candy.

We Are Scientists, PAWS @ Bowery Ballroom
The buzz around We Are Scientists may have ended years ago, but we’re definitely currently excited about Scottish trio PAWS, whose punky pop isn’t too far removed from Japandroids.

Inmates, Anasazi, Omegas, PROXY!, Warthog, Mercenary @ LPR (NY’s Alright)
The second annual NYC punk/hardcore festival New York’s Alright kicks off tonight at LPR early and…

Zyanose, La Misma, Aspects Of War, Life Chain @ Acheron (NY’s Alright)
…ends with a late show at Acheron. If you’re into intense, very rowdy punk shows, these are for you.

Puce Mary, Venerence, Ligature, Saran Man @ Baby’s All Right
Baby’s also hosts a NY’s Alright afterparty, but less on the punk side. Headliner Puce Mary is Denmark drone/industrial artist Frederikke Hoffmeier, who records for the Posh Isolation label (previously home to Iceage).

Prince Rama, Weaves, WIN WIN @ Baby’s All Right
It’s a evening of tribal mysticism shot through an ’80s filter, with the ladies of Prince Rama. Also on the bill: Toronto multihyphenate pop group Weaves.

I Break Horses, Rival Consoles @ Rough Trade
Sweden’s Maria Linden makes dancey shoegaze (or is it the other way around) as I Break Horses. This is the band’s second NYC show.

Horse Feathers, Laura and Greg @ Glasslands
Justin Ringle’s indie folk collective Horse Feathers are celebrating a decade together as a band this year. This is their first of two NYC shows.

Foster Care, New Coke, Sandratz @ Cake Shop
Brooklyn bruisers Foster Care this night of fuzzy punk-n-pop that also features Florida’s snazzy New Coke.

Liam Finn, Weyes Blood, Evil J, Saint Cecilia @ Union Pool
If the prospect of Liam playing his new album The Nihilist in full tonight isn’t enough, look out for special guest appearances from soon-to-be-tourmates Connan Mockasin and Kirkin J. Callinan. Guaranteed hijinx!

Laurent Garnier, MKL @ Output
French techno/house producer Laurent Garnier has been at it for over two decades, having recently put out releases on Ed Banger (Justice, Mr. Oizo, etc). Catch the veteran producer moving dancefloors like the ’90s at Output tonight.

Grass Is Green, The Gradients, Heeney, Tom Blacklung and the Smokestacks, Somewhere @ Emet
Grass Is Green’s fidgety post-hardcore pulls most from the ’90s Dischord style of the genre, and they do it well. Good bill overall too.

Chuck Ragan, The White Buffalo, Johnny Two Bags @ Irving Plaza
Though Hot Water Music is fully back in action, singer Chuck Ragan still has his solo project to folk on too, where he ditches HWM’s punk for rootsy folk. Tonight he and his band The Camaraderie (featuring members of Lucero and Social Distortion) will bring their rollicking folk to Irving Plaza.

Ikebe Shakedown, High and Mighty Brass Band! @ Mercury Lounge
Shake it to Brooklyn afro-funk collective Ikebe Shakedown, who celebrate their new album Stone by Stone at tonight’s record release show.

Brooklyn Folk Festival @ The Bell House
The three-day celebration of all things acoustic, rustic and down-to-earth kicks off tonight.

‘Trophy Tape’ screening @ Anthology Film Archives
Experimental musician Jason Lescalleet is screening his new Trophy Tape project which collects films by Aaron Dilloway, Ellen Frances, Annie Feldmeier Adams, Justin Meyers, Antony Milton, C. Spencer Yeh, Olivia Block, Adel Souto, Neil Young Cloaca, Todd Deal, Jubal Brown, Heidi Alasuvanto, and Robert Beatty interpreting music from his 2012 album, Songs About Nothing. Trailer below.
