What's going on Wednesday? (Mirah, Nazoranai, Built to Spill, D'Angelo, Split Single, Cripple Bastards, Ejecta & more)

Mirah (w/ Thao) @ MHOW, 2011 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Mirah

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Mirah, Loamlands, Led to Sea @ MHOW
Mirah’s already played a couple less traditional shows in NYC this year, but now the indie rock-leaning singer/songwriter gets in a club dates in support of her solid new album, Changing Light.

Nazoranai (Keiji Haino, Stephen O’Malley, Oren Ambarchi) @ The Wick
Nazoranai are an improvisational trio that featuring the prolific and influential Japanese experimental musician Keiji Haino, SunnO))) / Khanate guitarist Stephen O’Malley, and Australian multi-instrumentalist / occasional SunnO))) contributor Oren Ambarchi. Says O’Malley, “It’s an interesting exercise in patience, in trance, in timbre and in alertness as a player.”

Deleted Scenes, Krill, Verma, Palehound (solo) @ Baby’s All Right
It’s a good bill at Baby’s tonight with DC art punks Deleted Scenes, Massachusetts quirky indie rockers Krill, Chicago’s krauty Verma, and a solo set by Palehound singer Ellen Kempner.

Built To Spill, The Warm Hair @ Bowery Ballroom
When people talk about ’90s Indie Rock, certainly at least some of that talk is aimed at Built to Spill. If their output hasn’t been quite as consistent since Clinton left office, the hat trick of There’s Nothing Wrong with Love, Perfect from Now On, and Keep it Like a Secretmore than earned their place in the hall of fame. And they’re still great live.

D’Angelo (A Conversation) @ Brooklyn Museum (Red Bull Music Academy)
While we’re still waiting for that new D’Angelo album, maybe some insight will be shed on its very long delay tonight when the elusive R&B singer appears for this public lecture as part of RBMA.

Split Single, Desert Sharks, Leapling @ Glasslands
Split Single, the new band of Bob Mould collaborator Jason Narducy (which featured Spoon’s Britt Daniel playing on their album) finally make it to NYC tonight fo this show at Glasslands. Local indie rockers Leapling are worth catching too.

Guiellermo Sexto, Relations, Appomattox, Django, Lighting String @ Pianos
Drawing from a variety of postpunk influences, Relations make dark-hued but catchy, danceable pop, as heard on their debut album, Songbirds. Tonight’s the third week of their May residency.

Everything is Terrible! Live! @ The Bell House
The video collagists / crap connoisseurs known as Everything is Terrible! are back with two new “specials”: “Comic Relief Zero!,” takes a look at those who dare stand in front of a brick wall for laughs; and “Everything Is Terrible! Does The Hip-Hop!,” is pretty self explanatory.

Michael Hurley, Jess Williamson @ Union Pool
Having spent time in the ’60 Greenwich Village scene with his work covered by Holy Modal Rounders and others, acclaimed folk songwriter and performer Michael Hurley has remained active and prolific into his ’70s. Advance tickets of tonight’s show are sold out, but a limited amount will be available at the door. Same goes for Thursday’s show.

Cripple Bastards, Hooded Menace, Maruta, Archagathus, Detroit @ Saint Vitus
Long-running Italian grinders Cripple Bastards team up with Finnish death doomsters Hooded Menace, Miami deathgrind unit Maruta and more.

Ejecta, The Room Outside, Annie Girl & The Flight, How To Be Topp @ Shea Stadium
Ejecta is the duo of Neon Indian’s Leanne Macomber and Ford & Lopatin’s Joel Ford that centers around Leanne’s (almost) always “completely naked” character. They also make pretty good synth pop.

Big Terrific @ Cameo
Max Silvestri hosts the free weekly comedy show in the back of Williamsburg’s Lovin’ Cup. No word on who’s performing tonight, but Max usually lets us know via his Twitter
