What's going on Friday? (Little Dragon, Ought, Ivy, All Eyes West, Jail Weddings, John Doe, Statiqbloom & more)

Little Dragon @ BVSXSW 2014 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

For all of tonight’s shows, and tomorrow’s, check out our NYC concert calendar.

Little Dragon, Lawrence Rothman @ Terminal 5
Little Dragon gave us more of the Swedish synth pop we know and love on this year’s Nabuma Rubberband and tonight they kick off a sold-out 2-night run at NYC’s Terminal 5. Theatrical LA musician Lawrence Rothman should get things off to an interesting start.

YJY, Tribal Days, The Big Easy, Ports of Spain, Malatese, Surfing, Gingerlys, Sharkmufin, Kissing Is A Crime, Beiju, The Veda Rays, Eastern Hollows, Water, Life Size Maps, Honduras @ 94 Evergreen (Slackfest)
The Slackgaze ‘zine is throwing this three-day festival in Bushwick featuring 45 bands. Music starts at 3 PM.

Laura Stevenson, Not Blood, Paint, Tow3rs, Fascinator @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
Laura Stevenson (playing full band tonight) last released Wheel in 2013, more of the punkish indie rock we’ve come to expect from her and her Don Giovanni labelmates.

Jail Weddings, Earl Boykins @ Cake Shop
One of the biggest rock bands in Los Angeles (literally, there’s nine of them), Jail Weddings make grandiose psych-rock in the tradition of Lee Hazlewood or Scott Walker. It will be interesting seeing them crammed into Cake Shop’s tiny stage.

Sleeping Bag, Rozwell Kid, Shark?, Parlor Walls @ Death by Audio
Bloomington, IN invades Brooklyn tonight as indie rock bands Sleeping Bag and Rozwell Kid hit DbA, and their hooky pop is well matched with locals Parlor Walls and Shark?

Dave Chappelle @ Radio City Music Hall
Comedian Dave Chappelle is back in a big way, doing a whopping nine 10 nights at Radio City Music Hall. This is the third.

Ought, The Yum Dee Days, Savants, Tiger Dare @ Rough Trade
Canadian band Ought are surfing on a fair amount of buzz – and Talking Heads comparisons. See what the fuss is all about tonight.

Breakdown, White Widows Pact, Manipulate, Heavy Chains @ Saint Vitus
NYHC vets Breakdown are still kicking. Their demo-era lineup played 2013’s Black N Blue Bowl and now the band are set for another hometown show at Saint Vitus.

All Eyes West, Broadcaster, Easy Creatures @ The Acheron
Chicago’s All Eyes West are a newer band but love the ’90s (they’ve played hometown shows with Knapsack and Braid, and were produced by Jawbox’s J Robbins). They were in town last night for a show with Pilot to Gunner, and tonight they headline their own show at the Acherno.

Kaiser Chiefs, Streets of Laredo @ Webster Hall
Ten years since “I Predict a Riot” and “Oh My God” catapulted them the stardom, the Kaiser Chiefs soldier on.

John Doe @ The Bell House
The frontman for X does a solo show tonight at The Bell House, supporting his new best-of collection. He’ll be back with X in August.

Hot Tuna, Leon Russell, Jorma Kaukonen @ Westbury
Unlike the main members’ other band, Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna have continued consistently for decades since their start as a band, and like fellow jam pioneers Phil Lesh or Allman Brothers, they’ve still got it.

‘The Past is a Grotesque Animal’ (of Montreal movie) @ IFC Center
Jason Miller’s of Montreal documentary, The Past is a Grotesque Animal, is a very up-close, very personal look at the band and main man Kevin Barnes in particular.

Biblical, VBA @ Mercury Lounge
Toronto’s Biblical make throwback psychedelic rock and proto-metal, and though there’s no lack of this kinda thing, they’re one of the bands doing it exceptionally well.

Statiqbloom, VoidVision, Phemale @ Coco 66
Statiqbloom is Fade Kainer of metal band Batillus’ project that gives him a chance to make dancier music in the industrial/EBM realm.

Ivy, Tapehead, Chest Pain, Krallion @ Lulu’s
NYC’s Ivy make driving, attitude-filled punk as you can hear on their recent single for Katorga works, “Arch-Foe,” which is streaming below. They’re joined tonight by Rochester’s Tapehead, Austin’s Chest Pain and NYC’s Krallion.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
