What’s going on Monday? (tUnE-yArDs, Dave Chappelle, The Courtneys, Ski Lodge, Iron & Wine, Slow Club, more)

Iron & Wine at The Capitol Theatre in 2013 (more by PSquared)
Iron & Wine

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

tUnE-yArDs, Sylvan Esso @ Webster Hall
tUnE-yArDs’ new album Nikki Nack came out this year and it’s more of the eccentric writing that we can only get from her. The new songs really shine live, so these shows are sure to be great ones. (This is night 2 of 2 at Webster.) Get there early for Sylvan Esso too. Their electronic pop and singer Amelia Meath’s dance moves are always fun to watch.

Dave Chappelle, Nas @ Radio City Music Hall
Comedian Dave Chappelle is back in a big way, doing a whopping nine 10 nights at Radio City Music Hall with various guests. This is the fifth.

The Courtneys @ Rough Trade
The Courtneys make jangly indie rock reminiscent of The Blake Babies or the classic Flying Nun sound, and they do it well. They’re on tour opening for Tegan & Sara which hits Hammerstein Ballroom tomorrow but tonight they play this free in-store at the much smaller Rough Trade. Early show (6:30 doors).

Vacationer, Ski Lodge @ Rough Trade
After the Courtneys show, Rough Trade has a later show which kicks off with quality local indie pop from Ski Lodge.

Iron and Wine, Secret Sisters @ Capitol Theatre
Iron & Wine continued to shift from the bare bones bedroom folk songwriter he started out as to a band with a bigger, more layered sound on 2013’s Ghost on Ghost. Tonight you can see those fuller sounds come to life, and hopefully we’ll get to see Sam in solo format for a bit too.

Lawrence Rothman, Slow Club, The Kite String Tangle @ Brooklyn Bowl
UK duo Slow Club have a new record coming out and from the sound of its singles, they’re continuing to leave their winsome acoustic days behind in favor of a much fuller pop sound. Theatrical headliner Lawrence Rothman — who has been known to change personas from show to show — should be an interesting set too.

Weeknight, Color War, Sandy, Heathered Pearls (DJ Set) @ Baby’s All Right
If you like the darker, dustier side of The Raveonettes, you might want to check out Brooklyn band Weeknight who mine a similar territory. They’re well watched tonight with Color War’s gothy synthpop.

The Colourist, Field Mouse, Mainland @ Bowery Ballroom
On this bill we’re most excited about Field Mouse who have a new album coming out and recently put out the synthy single “Two Ships.”

Opal Onyx, Ed Askew Band, George Sand @ Cake Shop
Ed Askew is nothing short of a legend in folk music, and his ’60s material lives up today. Lucky for us he is currently a very active musician, and any chance to see him is one worth taking.

Night Train @ Littlefield
Tonight, Wyatt Cenac’s weekly Night Train comedy show will be guest hosted by Seaton Smith. Guests include Billy Wayne Davis, Cameron Esposito, Drew Michael, and Shonali Bhowmik.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
